I was just reminded of a story Grandma Deena told me about Jake when he wasn't too much older than what Ben is now. Grandma D says that watching Ben is liking watching home videos of Jake as a youngster. I think it is cool myself because really not many wives get to see their husband at toddler age. But wait, do they every really grow up. Haha!
The story:
When Jake was like 2 years old, he would wake up head to his mom's room and ask for a "butter sanwich, mama, pease?" The child was hungry. He wanted a peanut butter sandwich everynight. She got to the point where she premade them, so he would head to the kitchen and grab his little sandwich bag, and enjoy his snack. She said she would hear him and go check and find his little diaper hiny sticking out of the refrigerator grabbing his "butter sanwich". Every morning she said he would wake up with peanut butter breath. HAha! Stacking on the protein in the early years.
I just love the sound of that "Butter Sanwich, Mama, Pease?"
See Comments: Jake corrected me, it is actually Sammich a Butter, pease? That even sounds cuter. haha.
This is the first day of the rest of your life.

Canned!
Thats right! Cannin! This mama has been a canning machine. Only really canned one thing in my life so far, but I think it is a start.
When we were younger, I mentioned that my Mom and Dad had an enormous garden, from which Mom canned almost everything. She said she taught herself how to do it. That is pretty awesome. It seems much more simple than what it was years ago, helping my Mom. Most the time we had to stand back and watch because of the boiling water and veggies.
She canned tomatoes, green beans, Dill pickles, and beets. I remember her hands breaking out and the skin cracking. She said it was from cutting up the millions of tomatoes. But, we had veggies to last us through the winter. Oh, it reminds me of an old story you read in history books. Mother canning all the vegetables to prepare for the winter. I remember it being an all day event, from early morning to evening. Then the waiting to hear the pops of each of the cans to see if they "seal." See, when you can, you have to make sure they seal, otherwise the canning process has kind of failed. Then you have to refrigerate and eat the food before it spoils. I do remember all of us kids helping, and probably causing a lot of the jars "not" to seal by pressing on the lid, and Mom saying, "Don't touch that" What I didn't realize is by doing that, we were kind of ruining all her hardwork of storing food.
The reason this came about was my mother-in-law Deena, happens to still can quite a bit to this day. My two favorite things she makes is zuchini relish, and cranberry-banana jam. I found my third favorite to be her homemade salsa! She had stayed with us for a couple weeks to help out Jessica during the day with new baby Sydney.
I came home one day to find she had bought everything, and I do mean everything to make cranberry-banana jam. I was a little intimidated at first. I can cook, but I am far from Ms. Susie Home-maker! So, we did it. Well, she did most of it, and I was her helper. Watching step by step, wondering if I really would try to do it again by myself. We made 9 jars of jam. Waited till the next morning to find out, every single one of them SEALED! I mean that was the best feeling overall. Knowing that we "conquered" each and every jar. Haha!
So, last night, I headed over to Jessica's house to do another batch. Not really planning on it, we gave most of the jars away to family and a few friends the week prior. I mean I was so proud of this jam, pretty sure a few people had to laugh at me, but that is okay. Nothing was going to put me down about making my first batch of successful jam. So, I made last nights jam, by myself, going through step by step with Jessica. I was so worried when it was all done, that not one of my jars was going to seal.
Do you know that each one of the five we made sealed?! Yes, this sounds so crazy, but i mean this made my day. Now, I am going to proceed to find other things that I could can! I can't wait.
I hope this allows some of you to smile, cuz well, I know it all sounds kind of crazy. But if you be nice to me, I know canned jam, makes quite a good little Christmas gift!

Trip down memory lane!
Our first date: We went Iceskating! Both of us were a nervous wreck. Picture quality isn't that great, but it sure looked like we were having fun. We actually have a shot also of me skating under his legs. Nice!

This is the month Jake moved down to the little ol town in mid-missoura. Couldn't stand to do the weekend travel visits anymore.

This is about a month after our wedding. Notice how happy we look. Still newlyweds.

What is your husbands name? Jacob Lewis
How long have you been married? 3.5 years
How long did you date? one year
How old is he? 28
Our honeymoon, the first morning, watching the sunrise in Punta Cana, DR.

Here is my fabio hanging out with his babe in our suite!
Trip on the catamaran! Lookin good 3.5 years ago, pre-Ben days!

Who eats more sweets? It could be a tie. We each have a sweet tooth, but I am the chocolate fan. My favorite candy bar is Reese's Peanut Butter cup/Snickers and his is Reese's Fast Break.
Who said I love you first? Jake, I was quick to respond to say the least.
Who is taller? Jake, doesn't take much to be taller than I. He is 10 inches taller
Who is the better singer? Me. Although he did a pretty good job singing "My Maria" when we first started dating. And well, my singing skills aren't great when it comes to singing the correct words to a song. I often sing words that are totally off, and Jake just laughs at me.
Who is smarter? I would say we are both pretty darn intelligent, when it comes to random(and I do mean random)knowledge, Jake. Computers, Jake. Vitamins, minerals, Me. I guess it depends on the category.I gotta say we had a pretty darn smart little boy together.

Three days before delivery. Whoa Mama, I was looking good!

Proud Dad!

Proud Mom!
Who does the laundry? We both do it.
Who pays the bills? I do. Gotta have both paychecks though;)!
Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Jake, been that way since forever. Not really sure why.
Who mows the lawn? Jake. For the first time, in 3.5 years, I helped him mow the lawn last Sunday.
Who cooks the dinner? We take turns. If I cook, he cleans the kitchen, If he cooks I clean.
Who drives? When we are together Jake drives. He likes to drive when we are together. At least I think so. I like to nap when he drives ;)
Who is the first to say they are wrong? We never admit that we're wrong. Haha, it happens about 50/50 for both of us now. We are getting better about it.
Who kissed who first? Jake kissed me. It was awesome. Completely caught me off guard, and I wasn't really sure if I would ever see him again.
Who asked who out? Jake asked me to come visit him in Springfield. Believe it or not, I was supposed to be set up with his roommate months before.
Who wears the pants? Well, let's just say Jake doesn't wear a skirt. And I don't very often either for that matter.
Tag??? I tag Lori, Crystal, Becca, Jessica, Alyssa.

Sunny Days and more!
So many exciting things have been happening, and I am so behind. First of all Sydney Schwab was welcomed into the world last Thursday at 11am. 7lbs even, and 19.5 inches long. She had some difficulty adjusting to the new world. The doctors said it was because she came out so quickly. Jessica's labor was extremely fast. I have never thought I was so emotional but when it comes to little babies struggling physically i feel the biggest knot in my chest, and my heart want to leap out my chest to make everyone okay. You wonder where this came from. Well as we went to visit the Mom and the new edition in the hospital on Thursday night, there was a few complications. Sydney stopped breathing, and they had to call the nurses in, and it was so scary. Jessica seemed to handle it great. I kept feeling like I was going to collapse, and praying over and over to God to protect her. Wow, they decided she still had quite a bit of fluid in her from delivery and wanted to insert a tube, and get it out. Poor Sydney was just having a rough time adjusting to the new world. Granted she is fine, and looks like Sydney is going to keep Mom and Dad on their toes. I think she is going to be a tough cookie having three older brothers.
Then on another note, Jake's other sister Alyssa and her husband, Lynn have baby Ryan. He is almost six months old now, and what a trooper he has been. He was born last May, and I feel as if he has been in the hospital more than not since he came into this world. He was born with Hirscprungs Disease. Since birth he has had two surgeries, and been admitted multiple times back into the hosptital due to complications and infections. He is currently on antiobiotics an probiotics to stablilize his digestive system and keep him from getting sick again.(Do I have that right Alyssa?) See below: The Jenson family

Needless to say this little guy has been through a lot! I can't bear seeing a little one suffering. I can't even imagine. Gosh, I know how much I get worked up when Ben bangs his head or suffers from an ear infection. I can't imagine going through all of this. This reminds me that God takes care of each and every one of us. He has blessed Jake and I so much, and I know we take that for granted sometimes. When in truth, we would have nothing without God.
Grandma Deena and Grandpa Doug have been visiting, and Ben has been enjoying all the attention. I also want to give a big thanks to Grandma D. She is always so thoughtful, and brings adorable outfits for Ben. WHO SAYS you can't dress up a little boy?! I absolutely love putting him in new clothes. I will literally lay in bed in a morning and think about what I will dress him in that day. CRAZY i know!

Here is Grandpa Doug pointing at airplane in the sky. Benjamin looks at everything you try to point out whether he really sees it or not. But he was quite enthralled listening to the airplaine engines.

Grandpa Doug also got him a little toy airplane. HE loves to fly it around in the air, and makes the sound "WHOOOOOOOOSSHHHHHHHHHH"

Notice how helpful Ben is. Always cleaning the cabinets. He likes to do this three or four times a week.

This was a picture of Grandpa Doug and I at the bottom of Devil's Icebox cave at Rockbridge park. We spent a couple hours there hiking a trail. The weather was perfect and the woods were beautiful with all the fall colors. The hike wore Benjamin out. For the first time ever, he took a four hour nap when we got home!

Three generations of the Holee Men. Ben was all about walking all by himself on the trail.

In this picture Ben is giving some lovins to little miss Sydney Bug. Ben was not really up for letting me hold her though. He would get jealous real quick. Gave us a little sneak peak for the future and Ben as a big brother :)!

Ben's favorite past-time. Playing with sticks. He carries them around and hits the ground with them. He has been good so far, not to hit people with them. They have been the best toy yet. We spent lots of time outside too. I love outside pictures. And this is his famous squint as the looks in the sun.

Off to church sporting his little bomber jacket. He looked like quite the little stud in this outfit. Thanks Grandma D.

I had to pose this picture. Sporting our hoodies on a pretty fall day!
Life is good! Jake is great, and Ben is still a joy! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Zoo 2008
So, the day couldn't have been more perfect, and all the animals were out hanging around!

Notice the look on his face.............

As he checks out the elephants. Mama elephant and Baby Elephant.

The Hippos were amazing,so gracefull in the water.

Ben made sure to go up and "pat" every single goat in the petting zoo. There was probalby a good twenty of them, and he even petted a few with the stick he found.

What is a trip to the zoo, without a picture in the hippo's mouth?!

This guy was such a thinker!

These was the most amazing thing mine eyes have seen. Five baby cubs born in April this year playing with their Mother, romping around and hassling each other.

We stood right up next to this guy in his cage. He was a beautiful Cheetah! Too bad we didn't have any cheesecurls to give him. HAHA!

Last but not least, checking out the giraffes, while Ben climbs on the fence! I think we are going to have to put this guy in gymanstics some day. He is a monkey!

And my favorite shot of the day!

15 month check up
Ben had his fifteen month check up almost a week ago.
26lb's 6 oz, 75% weight
32 1/2 inches, or as Jake would say "a little over 2 and 1/2 ft tall". 75% height
He is on a roll.
Grandma Deena and Grandpa Doug are here visiting awaiting the arrival of Sydney Schwabb, so they are getting to know their little grandson. They refer to him as "little Jake" I don't understand why.
Mom is quite busy, but life is good. I have lots of pictures to add. Especially of Ben's first trip to the zoo. He loved the Hippo, chimps, and the elephants. The weather couldn't have been any better. More later. Hope everyone is well.

Days of Enlightenment
Do you ever have one of those days where you just feel good? Often, I correlate them with a good night's sleep. But I have mornings when I am getting Ben and I ready and then driving to work, where I get happy feelings. Sounds kind of gay, but really I just feel enlightened. Some would refer to it as being 'filled with the spirit' A Buddhist would describe it as a state of Nirvana. For me, these days ususally start with a sunny morning. You feel like nothing could go wrong.
Also, I am looking forward to Jake getting home tonight. I feel like I haven't seen him for days. Besides seeing him a couple hours on Monday night, he hasn't been home since Saturday. I am pretty sure he is missing us too.
I would also like to point out I am more patient and easy going on these days. I can have a rude person cut me off in traffic or in line at the grocery store, or just be plain mean because they want to, and I brush it off with a good old shoulder shrug, like I just don't care. Ha! Why can't all days be like this.
This is also a good time to talk about the GOLDEN RULE or the Story of the Good Samaritan. Do to others as you wish them to do. I challenge people today to do something nice for someone that you usually wouldn't do. I will do it myself. If they are there when you do your good deed, watch their response, and I bet money they will be off doing a good deed for someone else today, because of how you made them feel. What can it hurt?
I know it is going to be a good day, when Ben comes to give me a hug and a kiss before I leave him at daycare, and then he is off to go play. He doesn't have a care in the world either.
Happy Days!

Gotta have some pictures. October 08
And what is a blog post without some pics.

My Handsome guy sitting on the bench in front of our house before church. The weather was awesome all weekend.

What's wrong Ava? Apparently the stone bench was very cold on her bare little legs. This girl is amazing. Such a talker. You ask her her name, she says, ABA! I tell her I luv you Ava. She responds with, I lub you MIA! Oh, I couldn't get enough.

Ben loves dogs! Any of them. This is Frankie, my Mom and Dad's dog. Ben loves going over and giving him lovins.

Always on the move. Benjamin loves climbing up and down steps.

Notice it helps to balance with your tongue out.

Had to post another. I absolutely loved this outfit on him. Such a little man.

Slacking on the blog
I have had a sense of "blog" block. At some point during the day something crosses my mind to write about, and then of course I forget, and don't write. I could write about random stuff, but then again I feel like it is rather unimportant in my life. I do have one random thought though.
I have found that I have a couple different quirks, that most people don't realize or know about me. Odd things which I wonder if anyone does them themself.
1) I eat the chocolate around a candybar first. Always on reeses' peanut butter cups. There is just something about saving the best for last.
2) Coffee: I drink about a 1/4 to half a cup before I leave in the morning. And since I have only a four cupper coffee maker, I make almost a full pot one morning then the next morning, put the left over coffee in a cup and warm it up in the microwave. I guess some could see it as gross. But I look at it as saving coffee and spending less.
3)I am infatuated with vitamins to the point that it excites me to talk about them or read about them. Some may already know that.
4)Hypocrite: I eat a ton of sugar, but allow Ben to have minimal amounts if any in a days time.
5) I put potato chips on PB &J, turkey or ham sandwich. I found this is actually more common than I thought.
6) I have the fakest smile in the world. I am working on it, Thanks Jason. He always makes fun of me when he takes my picture, and says, "Oh come on there it is, there it is, there it is....leading up to it", and then I actually smile. It's not like I don't want to smile, just have a hard time doing it. Notice:

7)Speaking of Jason, we have a coolness contest. Yes, it is rare, but we make up songs saying how "cool" we are and the other is not. Of course, he really needs to catch on that any coolness he has is only what I rub off on him.
8) I can be quite a picky eater. At least Jake thinks so, I think I have gotten better. It really just depends on the mood I am. I have to admit, I am what you could call a moody eater.
9) I can be somewhat of an overbearing sister. (Which sibling will read this first? and say FINALLY, she admits it!) My excuse is I care so much, and I really don't know how to keep my mouth shut when I think I KNOW what's best. And well, I always know best!
10) I could eat four or five whole tomatoes by myself just with salt and pepper on them. Believe me, when I was a child, I am pretty sure I got a Vitamin C overdose one day and caused myself to have a huge migraine headache.
11) I love Food network!! Favorite, Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. There are some awesome cooks out there.
12) I am a romantic. I love Love Stories, movies, books, and everyday romance. I find myself watching older couples admiring them for their love or romance. No matter how old they get. Like when, this couple at church last weekend was celebrating there "60th Anniversary" The priest called them up to say Kiss the bride. And he didn't want to stop kissing her. It was amazing to see that kind of love after all those years.
13) I am so emotional. I can cry at the drop of a hat, a commericial, a comedy. Sometimes, just from thinking about something happy.
14) I have a secret want to sell vitamins and whole food to people one day at a gym or own my own store. Why not share the wealth?!
15) I hate politics. Period.
16) I love having family get togethers. It is always crazy, but never a dull moment.Last weekend, we had Mom and Dad's b-day celebration, along with Matt and Katies' birthdays at our house. It was a blast, and great food. Including a smoked pork butt, Jake made. Unbelievable.
Hmmmmmmmm. I thought I didn't have much to write, but there is your random stuff for the day.
Please feel free to collaborate on your quirks.
