Yes, that was me, walking up for communion at Saturday night mass, my little girl on my hip and my son, screaming bloody murder in front of me, like he was dying because his shoelace came undone. That was me, the Mom that everyone started at, as I tried to just hold it together. That was me when the priest smiled and blessed Benjamin's head even in his tears, and said "Don't worry son, I feel like that too somedays." That was me walking back from communion, my son walking in front of me, screaming still and flailing his arms...me...I was praying, doing everything in my power not to scream myself, or cry. I had to hold myself back until I could hand Jonna off to one of my sister's while I carried my son, and brought him to the van and spanked him. His behavior was unacceptable. I couldn't believe how embarrassing that was. Yes, that was me. I haven't seen another parent have to do this with there boy. SO, why is my son the one that does this and makes me feel and look like the WORST parent in the world.
Terrible Three's Huh? Well, could we hurry up and get on to the next year. Oh, wait that will be just in time for Jonna to start her Terrible two's....Oh, the joy of being a mother.
You know, I am going to tell it like it is. Sometimes being a parent isn't quite the piece of cake that I thought I cut myself. Jake was working that night...again, so I didn't have my reinforcement to help me.
I was reading a book over the weekend and it talked about two parents discussing having their third child. Going from one child, when a parent can take turns, to two children, so it's one on one defense, and then having the third would entail zone defense. Jake's job has allowed me to take in that zone defense quite a bit. Sometimes, it is pretty overwhelming, but most the time zone defense can be quite rewarding. I do get to have my children's overall attention all to myself. I mean they look at me like a role model, their caretaker, their best friend, and well, their mother. That is a good feeling.
When I ask Ben what he wants to be when he grows up: "I want to be a fireman."
Me: Why do you want to be a fireman?
Ben: I want to save people...Like Daddy.
Me: Well, that is nice Ben. What else do you want to do when you grow up.
Ben: Take care of Jonna, and ride green motorcycles. And Mom, you can ride on the back of my motorcycle while I drive it.
Me: one day, Ben, one day.
Conversation with Jonna:
Me: Jonna, Don't touch the plug in. That is dangerous.
Jonna: Smiles.
Me: Jonna, Don't touch the plug in, as I watcher her grab at it with her hands.
Jonna: Still Smiling.
Me: I snatch her up, and sternly tell her to not touch the plug in cuz it is dangerous!
Jonna: Giggling in delight.
This one has no fear, no holding back. Spiteful. She will grab at a spider, try to eat a frog and attempt to chew on rocks. Yes, that is my daughter.
It really is tough sometimes, but it is important for me to bring me back to the center and remind myself of how absolutely perfect life is being a mother of two beautiful children.
Our FAVORITE spot in the entire house is Jake and I's bed. Why is that? WELL, That is where we can all lay out together and just have fun. Jumping, wrestling, playing games, making animal sounds, pointing out eyes, noses, mouths, and ears, Tickling, and reading books. My favorite is when Ben asks, "MOM! you wanna go play on your bed?!" Of course I do! It has become kind of a family event/ritual on a Saturday or Sunday morning, and in the evenings.
We had a fabulous weekend, none the less. Spending with family, and Ben got to play with his cousins. Life is good as I watch Ben run and tumble and play with his cousins, and aunts and uncles. The best part is that not only he gets to grow up with them, but I am pretty sure they are going to be the best of buds!
So, here is another tribute to fun at Grandma Kusick's house.
The grankids favorite thing to do. Make homemade chocolate chip cookies with Grandma.

Why do you think that is?

Mati eating her spoonful of cookie dough.

Natasha performing "levitation of a two year old"

Benjamin was the pitcher of our weekend kickball game. He did this by setting the ball down and actually kicking it to the person up to bat.

Bike riding time. Elle and Mati brought their bikes, and the kids had a blast riding bikes in the driveway.

Mati, Jonna, and Taylor hanging out on Grandma's swing.

Ben hanging out withh Dad during the football game, this was pre-kickball game. It isn't a weekend at Grandma's without some type of sporting event.
