20 + 10

This is 'always' the first day of the rest of my life. And, I feel good. Actually, I feel great. I plan to live this decade just like last, but with a little more wisdom under my belt. Life is a constant learning experience. A friend said to me this morning, you know it's just better having a birthday with kids. And it is. Nothing like my son Benjamin coming in wearing the shirt I picked out two weeks ago at the store with Jake and the kids. He walks in the living room with a shirt on that looks like a dress, comes over to hug me and says, "this is your birthday present, Mom."

I kind of feel like I am starting a whole new round. What will the 30's bring for me. Or my 20 plus 10 years.

Some things I learned in my lifetime.

Don't eat too much popcorn at the movie theatres. Your body just can't handle it like it used too.

Smile even when you don't feel like it. It will make you feel better.

Exercise, Drink lots of water and take your vitamins. You are not only living a long healthy life for yourself, but for your children and your husband.

Chocolate is always good.

Communication is by far the best thing to share with your husband. Ok, well there is one other thing, but this is a PG 13 post. (wink, wink)

What doesn't kill me, only makes me stronger.

Take deep breaths.

Do NOT drink and drive. That is a given. But I learned the hard way. My early 20's were by far THE hardest years of my life, but probably my biggest leaps in growth too.

GOD takes care of me, if I let him.

You can ride 48 miles on your bike in less than 5 hours, at age 20 plus 9:)

Coffee smells like a million bucks, and on the morning after long nights with sick kids, literally tastes like a million bucks.

I thought I was tired before.

Life can be my passion if I let it. I love to excel in everything I do. So, why not bring that to my work and home.

I am a da** good employee.

Ditto on the last statment, and fill it in with, wife and mother.

Making yourself feel like you want to throw up while working out, sucks when you are experiencing it, but when you are done, it makes you feel like you are a champion.

Ask Doctors questions. Write down those questions before a visit.

Respect your elders.

Respect others.

I am only human.

When your husband, tells you to go take a nap. Listen.

I have the best in laws a woman could ask for.

Tooth pain can be the worst ever.

Laundrey and house cleaning can wait.

Your man needs to treat you like a queen. (Thanks Babe!)

Everyone needs to feel loved.

Everyone needs to feel needed.

You can eat breakfast for dinner several times a week.

Even though it takes twice as long to have your toddler and one year old help you do something, it is okay, because one day, they may not want to help you anymore. Ben will probably still eat the brownies I make at 16, but I doubt he will want to help me stir the bowl.

My best times in the world are experinced with my husband and two kids. Who could have ever thought I could be filled with so much love.

We all need good friends to talk to and have them listen. They keep us sane.

Sometimes, one glass of wine just doesn't cut it.

My brothers', sisters', and their families are the most amazing group of people. I can't believe God has blessed me a million times over. I need to tell them I love them more.

Playing softball at 26 is much harder on the joints than when I was 18. Now, why did I sign up for two leagues this summer and fall?

One day we will own a motorcycle, and one day we will also own an airplane.

Jake is one of the most amazing people I have met in my lifetime.

Sharing a glass of ice water with your son and daughter and listening to their "ahhhhhh"'s after the gulp is priceless.

It's okay to be moral.

I am soooooooooo not perfect.

Jonna is the most beautful little girl I have ever set my eyes on.

I am a picky eater.

Benjamin is the most handsome little man I have ever set my eyes on.

My son may hate to 'see' me cry more than I hate to cry.

But, it is okay to cry.

I love sneezing.

Somethings just aren't that important. So don't get upset over spilled milk. Well, unless it is Mama's milk.

Tears of joy let you know you are alive and life is good.

Pray, Pray, Pray.

And well, I look pretty darn good for 20 + 10!

Sometimes, I wonder what if, and where I will be in the future. When will we have our next child? Will Jake and I remain healthy? How will I be a good mother when times are hard? Can I do this, this whole life thing? How did others do it? I could probably make myself sick asking questions.

Or, I could think about today and just attempt to be the best person I can be today. Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. You really know how to make a person feel loved.

On a roll

Four days in a row....No er visits. Whoot!

So, yesterday, we went to Burn Clinic for check up on Ben's hand. They ended up debreding it, which should have been done at the ER, but that's okay. He was such a big boy, and even watched them as they cut it off. He did great till the last part, when the dead skin was close to the healing skin, it got a little painful. They put some Duoderm (very awesome fake skin) and they said the "second degree burn" is doing well. Yes, second degree burn. That is what Jake and I thought initially, but well as I mentioned before the ER attending and residents didn't listen. Whatever. I said I would be done with venting. Jake actually was able to call the attending physician and express concerns that they need to learn to treat the overall patient, and our son should not have had to experience the amount of pain he did. The doctor agreed and apologized. Jake said he wasn't sure if the doctor really was sorry, but was just saying so. But that is okay. He voiced his opinion, and I am so happy he did. Ok, NOW I am done venting.

Two days we head for tooth surgery, and then our little boy will be done with doctor's hopefully for a while. haha. Our pockets can't handle much more between the ER copays, and the dental bills.

We head to Wyoming next week for a family trip. I AM SO READY FOR IT!

Well, Well, Parent of the Year award will not be for me.

So, notice Ben's face is healing so well. His tooth that is left is still in tact for now. which is good.

Then, please notice bandage on his hand. Yes, we decided that are life wasn't near as exciting enough, so on Friday night headed to the ER again, second night in a row. Ben burned his hand on the muffler of a go cart. It was the same palm that he burned two years ago on the oven door. It didn't look quite as bad, but a 3 inch portion of skin was peeled to the side. Ben was in excruciating pain. We knew they would probably bandage it up, maybe debrede it, and first and foremost give him some pain relief. At least you would think. Not sure, what the issue was with the residents or attending physician that night, but they thought ibuprofen would be best suitable for pain. OK?! My son has been screaming for a full hour and 1/2. The resident, says to me, Hmmm, i think he is just frustrated and angry with us. Maybe a little scared. That is why he is so upset. The motrin will be just fine. What?!

Jake is pacing back and forth. I can tell by looking at him, he is about to explode. He says later, that he knew if he spoke, it would be all downhill.

Mama Bear decided to come out. Very calmly. I did hold myself together, but said, "Doctor, my son is three years old, yes he is scared. I would be too, but I know when my son is in excruciating pain. That is why he is screaming and not able to calm down. If I had a burn on my hand like his, and came in here I think I might be screaming too." I think he just disagreed with me, and sat on his high horse as 'holier than though' resident. And decided, you know I think I will wait another 20 minutes before we even give him the motrin. It was uncalled for, inappropriate, and all my ravings before about this hospital, well, lets just say, that little survey they make you fill out. I will just explain my experience. I would like to think that the way they treated my son was inhumane. I expressed later that I wanted them to know I am looking out for my son. I asked is it a second degree burn. They said no. I said is it a first degree burn, they said yes. I said, does he have all of his nerve ending open to air. They said yes. I said, does that cause pain. They said, well of course yes. Hmmmm. ok. Wth? There was one nurse, that was on our side through out. I will bet money, she was the only one of those people that had children of her own. And had a clue of what it was like to see your baby in excruciating pain, and you can do nothing about it. Okay enough with my venting.

Needless to say. I feel like the worst parent in the world.

But here are some cute pictures of them, they always cheer me up.

Update on Ben's Dentist visit

Surgery next week to either remove the top front tooth or attempt to save it. It is broken off almost in half and there is a fracture up to the gum line. They won't know till they get in there, and either way he will have general anathesia. Let's keep our fingers crossed it will be saved, but if not, then I will have a cute toothless little boy.

Two trips to ER in Three Years

Not bad, right. A normal Thursday night. The kids and I had dinner, and then I made brownies. While Jonna and I were putting clothes away Ben decided to keep checking the brownies to see if they were cool enough to eat. He would run in and say, Mom, they aren't hot. I would say just wait until I am done, and I will go cut one for you. The entire time he made several trips to the kitchen. His 3rd trip back of him telling me they were "not hot" I noticed the chocolately grin. I went to the kitchen to find a tray of brownies demolished with what looked like a three year olds' finger running trails through the entire sheet with gaping holes here and there. Yes, they weren't hot. And Ben's trails throughout them proved so.

So, that would have been my story for this blog post, but it gets more exciting. I mean what is a night at home with the kids without a little more excitement. Jake was working at the fire department. After brownies, we headed outside for our regular bike ride, and stroller ride. I don't know if I mentioned prior but Ben learned to ride his bike a week and 1/2 ago without training wheels. I find it quite amazing, but he is so coordinated. He has been comfortable enough in the last week to do the same tricks of standing and and feet in air poses as he did while training wheels were attached. He wrecked several times with and without them on. I figured that was a given. and as long as he was wearing a bike helmet, he would be okay. Well, last night proved different. I was walking behind him as he went up a hill and as he turned to come down, I noticed our neighbor was pulling out of our cul de sac and was behind me driving towards Ben. I told Ben to pull to the side as always. He gets excited when he sees a car and is quick to get to the side. Well this time, in his excitement he turned his handlebars too quick while heading a good speed towards me, and "SMACK" "CRASH" Ben went face first into the pavement. His mouth and chin broke his fall. My neighbor Brandy was outside, and saw it happen, and I leave Jonna on the side of the road in her stroller and sprint the 30 feet towards my son. Yes, I left my daughter in the road with a moving car behind her. Hindsight, not a good idea, but in the back of my mind I knew Brandy was running towards her. Mind you we live in a cul de sac, and the care was traveling approx 5 miles an hour, and I think came to a stop when she saw Ben's crash. I run to my son, and scoop him up in my arms, blood everywhere running down his face to his shirt, my shirt and our feet. He is screaming in terror, and I notice that the lips are plump swollen, and I notice a front tooth missing, and see the white chunk in the back of his throat. Yep, he swallows it.

This is the point that Super Mom kicks in. No Jake to back me up this time, and well, I had to suck it up, and fix my son. I carry him in arms as I run back to our house reassuring him, he is okay, and what a big boy he is, and how proud I am of him. Ya, I am proud he hit his face on the pavement. No, I am proud of him for being such a trooper, as he says to me. Mom I had to get out of the way of the car. She would run me over. I said yes Ben, that is right. Brandy is yelling to me in the background, GO your fine. I got Jonna.

So, we run to the house, I lay him flat, take helmet off,get a wet cloth to wipe away the blood to see how bad the damage was, get ice, and put it in rag, tell him to hold it there, as he does very willingly. I call Jake as my fingers fumble over my almost dead cell phone. And say, ok, we are headed to University ER, Ben had a bike wreck, seems okay, but he looks pretty rough and broke a front tooth out. Lips swollen. Jake says okay. See you there. And in the car I load him. Brandy says to me we have Jonna, I say thank you so much. Yell at Jonna, I love you Baby. I gotta take care of your brother. He needs to go to the doctor. Jonna looks at Mom in awe and waves. She is such a blessed little girl.

We get in the car in our trip 15 minutes to the hospital. I say Ben you want Mom to sing you a song. He says yes, And I start singing "you are my sunshine" Let me tell you that singing a song, as you hear your little boy sniffle in the background because he hurts, kind of makes the Super Mom slack off and cry a little, so, I had to kind of stop singing, and switch to ABC's. I had to be tough in front of him. Ben doesn't like it when I cry, and it upsets him more. So no tears can be shed now. So to the hospital, he falls asleep. I try to wake him, just incase he had a head injury. He cries to me, Mom I am tired. And then I let him sleep, knowing he isn't unconscious.

ER visit. Ben explains to the doctor he fell down on bike, doesn't have training wheels, a car was coming, and was gonna run him over. Ha. My little Man. All the words are difficult to hear as his lips are so swollen. The doctor is proud of him for being such a big boy. And boy, Jake and I are too. Doctor takes a good look as Ben sits very still for him. Notices over half the front top tooth missing, and a gash in the upper inside, but not too deep for stitches. The pulp of the tooth was hanging out, and that was a sign that nerves were probably open to air too. This means, the poor guy was gonna be in pain until we could get to dentist to hopefully cap it. We leave messages for several pediatric dentists. ER sends home after observation. Good thing Ben is so vocal, so they didn't question any further child abuse. Man!

So, that leads us to this morning. Waiting for Dentist to call back. Mom, woke up several times last night to make sure Ben is still breathing. Jake is home with them today, and I will go in when we hear from dentist.

I call a friend of mine, to say, wow, I don't know if my nerves can handle this. She tells me don't worry it will make me stronger and prepare for future. She has a son that has children of his own now. And Fyi, I have such great friends that took care of Jonna Baby, while we took care of Ben. Thanks Julie and Brandy. Don't know what I would do without you!

Did I mention I finally let my tears go as I drove to work this morning. Super Mom needed a moment.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JONNA! YOU ARE ONE!

Did we keep her alive a year?! Well, Yes we did! Man, Can I believe this one is one year old. No. I am getting older, but really time is flying, I just want it to pause!

This picture was the snapshot I got of her when I walked into her room to wake her at 6:30am singing Happy Birthday!

Two days ago, she took FOUR steps! She is so close to walking. She still laughs at herself like she is the coolest thing that crawled this earth. She still has only the four teeth. Wears a size four shoe and 12 month and some 18 month clothes. She loves to dance, wave bye bye, and knows how to sign "please." Only when asking for icecream of course! haha. She eats table food, but has for the last month or more probably. Sippy cup only during the day, and has been for the last 6 days. On straight rice milk. The only bottle she has is the one at 2am! Whew. Let's hope we can wean that one soon. She is her Daddy's girl! Still likes to jump in on the wrestling when we are all rolling around on the living room floor. And yes, she is spoiled rotten. Shows some drama now and then when she tests the waters with the word no. That is every day really. Her hair is so cute. I cut her bangs for the first time, two weeks ago. Now it will grow!
This is her this morning on the way out the door to the sitter!

We have a birthday party to celebrate on Sunday with friends.

Happy Birthday Jonna Baby! We love you!

Kids.

You know when I first started all my blog writing, I would talk about all kinds of things. Everyday life, thoughts, randomness, work, and my kids. Now, I usually just talk about my kids. Some times are stressful. Some times our pure JOY! Two weeks ago, some of the most stress ever. Walking out of the children's daycare with both kids in arm, telling her we wouldn't be back! For the best interest of my kids. In the back of my mind thinking, "OH CRAP"! But, the big guy upstairs is taking care of us. Ben starts Pre-school in mid August, and Jonna starts a new daycare, which was highly recommended about the same time. And I have great friends to help me out until then, along with an awesome husband who is doing some daddy day care also. But you know, my family is what my life is filled up with and really the most important. A mother said to me a long time ago. You know my kids are my "Legacy". I mean how awesome is that. MY LEGACY! They ARE what I AM now and when I AM no longer here. With that being said, my cup overflows:)!

Jake's sister and her children stayed with us over the weekend, and it was a wonderful visit, filled with GOING BONKERS, Playing outside, bike riding, water guns, ladder ball, and Slip n Sliding. Jonna got her first set of pigtails, with Compliments to Aunt Jessica S. We have a small house, but I have to say the accomodating goes pretty well. I just hope Jessica feels that way :) So Ben slept with us in our bed on Saturday and Sunday night. Both nights, he laid in bed talking to us about EVERYTHING he got to do that day. And his pure joy makes me the happiest Mom in the world. Enough with the cheesy stuff! CHECK OUT what Ben learned to do last night?!

She is such a goofball!

Attempt at a group shot with Ben, Cousin Sydney, David, and Ethan.

Cutest little girls ever! Jonna and Sydney. Syd is 9 months older than Jonna, and has quite a bit more hair than her as you can see.
